Introduction

We’re back with another recap of our Community Champions bimonthly meeting — and what an uplifting gathering it was!

A huge thank-you to everyone at ASDA Hyson Green in Nottingham for your ongoing support in hosting and championing our community initiatives. It’s always energising to come together, reflect on what we’ve achieved, and plan for what’s next.

Working with Our Champions

It’s such a privilege to work alongside Nottingham’s Community Champions — people who dedicate their time, energy, and compassion to raising awareness, supporting others, and saving lives.

Yes, there’s always a lot to sort out, but we manage it together — and we have plenty of fun in the process! Between the laughter, the thoughtful advice on healthy living, and the genuine care we show one another, there’s an undeniable sense of family in the room.

These gatherings are filled with love, humour, encouragement, and shared wisdom — a reminder that community work thrives on connection.

Recent Highlights

One of our proudest moments this month was celebrating our nomination for the Black Achievers Award 2025, taking place on October 25, 2025.

This honour isn’t just about recognition — it’s a celebration of every volunteer, supporter, and community member who pours their heart into our mission.

We were also delighted to present our newly printed leaflets at the meeting — finally ready after much anticipation! Our champions will now be distributing them across the city in the coming weeks, helping to share information about our initiatives, events, and ways to get involved.

Community Collaboration

As part of our preparations for the upcoming event, we’re excited to invite several fantastic community partners to take part and share their valuable work with our audience.

We’re proud to confirm that:

  • Friends and Bredrins Cancer Support Group

  • The Rose Thompson Foundation

  • Notts SVSS (Nottinghamshire Sexual Violence Support Services)

will all be present on the day, hosting information stands so audience members can access vital resources, guidance, and support.

It’s all about giving people the full share — health information, community care, and connection, all under one roof.

Upcoming Events

We’re also gearing up for our new production, “Prostate Not Prostrate,” featuring Patty Dumplin and community champion Osbourne Taylor, which will take place at Nottingham Contemporary on December 1, 2025.

This unique theatre piece combines humour, health awareness, and heartfelt storytelling — continuing our mission to educate through entertainment.

Looking Ahead

As we move forward, I encourage everyone to keep spreading the word about our meetings, events, and community projects.

It truly takes a village — and your laughter, kindness, and ongoing support make all the difference.

Conclusion

Our bimonthly meetings are more than just planning sessions — they’re moments of connection, reflection, and shared purpose.

We come together to work, to laugh, and to lift one another up.

Thank you to everyone who continues to walk this journey with us. With humour, heart, and hope, we’ll keep building stronger communities — one story, one smile, and one shared moment at a time.
